WORLD AIDS DAY

Apparently, this is what I get upset about; I’ll just repost from the alternate blog with linking.
Just figured out why it’s a little hard to get up in arms about Day Without Gays on December 10th and boycotting all the pretty weddings –well, AIDS is still out there and for many, especially in Africa, it’s all the days without either parent. Here in the US even, there’s still the stigma — I watched Magic Johnson on First Take the other day, Dana leaned over to touch him and I thought — there’s a whole lot of people who wouldn’t do that. Ignorance is still out there, the virus is still out there and we need to get people on their partner’s health insurance whether they are married or not. Starbucks is kicking in five cents per beverage and here’s a link with how some nations are recognizing the day. My buddy Milton also sent me a press release from the National Minority AIDS Council, which added to the Starbucks “Are you attending” blurb on facebook started the mulling. And then, of course, there are the large number of groups saying skip the overpriced beverages and donate the cost to the cause. But Starbucks did start the conversation for a lot of people.
On a happier note, see a really cool thing in the sky tonight — crescent moon, Venus + Jupiter. Maybe the rain will move on by sunset.
Stay safe, be compassionate and pray if you’re so inclined.
